Everyone knows that the cold turkey approach to quitting smoking is the best way to protect their health. While some people are able to quit smoking this way, many others can’t. Unfortunately, some people find that when they fail to achieve an important goal, they just want to give up all together. If you are unable to quit smoking cold turkey, it doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to stop smoking eventually. It simply means that you have to find another way to break the habit.

There are stop smoking aids like nicotine patches and gums on the market, but they are not for everyone. For those who prefer to go with something more natural, there are a few things that can be done. People who want to quit using other alternatives will still need to exercise self control and mental control. Part of the problem is the physical addiction that has to be dealt with and the other part is a mental block that has to be overcome.

Instead of shocking the body, like what happens when someone does quit smoking cold turkey, a person can slowly and gradually bring down the level of nicotine that their body craves. To do this one must figure out an average of how many cigarettes per day they smoke. Once this is done the individual needs to subtract four cigarettes from that total and hold firm that they will now start smoking four less cigarettes each day. Space out the cigarettes that are smoked and your body may not notice much of a difference.

Instead of the shock to the system that the quit smoking cold turkey will deliver, this method will slowly bring the body into adjustment without even realizing it. After about a week or two of that adjustment the total per day cigarette count can again be lowered by four cigarettes. A person who is trying to quit smoking can continue this pattern until they are no longer smoking any cigarettes.
